Canada’s Covid-19 App

The Feds launched a Covid 19-app to help contain the pandemic in record time (less than 3 months). This app was inevitable as it will help create a database of the Canadian population to contain the second coming of the Covid-19 virus. Current research suggests that the virus acts like a seasonal flu and eventually everybody will have to be tested for the whole economy to re-open.

Its is safe to say people with pre-existing medical condition, who tend be older, will stay indoors until there is a a zero chance of getting it. That is why long-term care facilities are still closed.  The only people venturing out tend to be younger people that are seen in the malls and we are now seeing a rise in infections amongst this group in the latest numbers.

The App allows you to do a self test for symptoms that is now logged into the national database. They suggest you log in everyday, but that is a little too much, but you should do it on a weekly basis as least. The app also provides health info and statistics on the outbreak.

They have also introduced a Covid-19 Tracing App that will send you alert if somebody you came in contact with contracted the virus. The apps are a necessary evil and everybody will have to be eventually tested and logged into the national Covid-19 database. So anybody with a phone can get the app and provide their data for the database. This is a voluntary app as you allow to be tracked via app on your smartphone.

How Covid-19 Alert App works

  • The app uses Bluetooth to exchange random codes with nearby phones.
  • Every day, it checks a list of random codes from people who tell the app they tested positive.
  • People that are tested positive will enter their health code into the system
  • If you’ve been near one of those codes in the past 14 days, you’ll get a notification

The latest figures show that 124,896 reported cases in Canada out of 5,115,490, which amounts to 2% of the people tested positive or 0.35% of the population. In comparison there are 6,633,163 positive tests in the USA out of 74,830,4564 tests, which is 9% versus Canada’s 2%. This works out to 2% of the population in the USA has contracted Covid-19. Based on these numbers we should thanks our government official in doing a fantastic job in containing the virus in Canada.
